DuganJohnny Schmidt, professor emeritus of The Ohio State University, was in the field artillery during WWII, but didn’t make it overseas. His sister Bertie, did, however, and her name went down in history. She was in the Red Cross in Europe, and was so popular that she had airplanes named after her, including a B-24 named “Dugan,” which now resides in the American Air Museum in Duxford, England. The plane was shot down, but years after the war, a happy ending materialized.
